East Blithedale Construction Update - July 29, 2022

East Blithedale Project Logo

Work crews will continue to close East Blithedale Avenue between Camino Alto and Elm Avenue to allow for ongoing sanitary sewer work and sidewalk, driveway, and curb replacement.

New Bike Lanes are in Place

We are receiving positive feedback from community members on the new bike lanes between Roque Moreas Drive and Tower Drive/Kipling Drive in the eastbound direction, and between Tower/Kiping and Meadow Drive in the westbound direction. Check out this recent article from the Marin County Bicycle Coalition here.

New Traffic Pattern Reminder

Please note the new traffic pattern at Ashford Avenue, where the “slip lane” is now closed to vehicles and only available for cyclists and emergency services. Westbound vehicles are now required to slow via a right turn in advance of the Chevron gas station and then to take a right turn to access Ashford Drive as shown below. Please watch for pedestrians using the new crosswalk.

What Happened This Week:

East Blithedale Rehabilitation Phase 2 (between Alta Vista Avenue and Amicita Avenue): Argonaut Constructors is forming and pouring concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and driveways along the North side of East Blithedale between Alta Vista and West of Locust Avenue. The Contractor is forming a curb and gutter between Locust Avenue and Elm Avenue (east) and they poured the base for the new drainage inlet at Alta Vista. Pedestrians may still use the southern sidewalk – look for a temporary pathway available to access homes along the north sidewalk.

East Blithedale Rehabilitation Phase 3 (between Alta Vista Avenue and Camino Alto): Argonaut Constructors will saw cut the existing sidewalk along Sunnyside Avenue between Miller Avenue and East Blithedale Avenue, then demolish the existing sidewalk in preparation for installing a new sidewalk

Marin Municipal Water District Pipeline Replacement: MMWD’s Contractor, Maggiora & Ghilotti, is replacing the main waterline from Elm Avenue (west) to Dell Lane.

Upcoming Work: Week of August 1st

Phase 1: Argonaut Constructors plans to install green bicycle lane sharrows on Ashford Avenue at Meadow Drive.

Phase 2: Argonaut Constructors will continue curb, gutter, and formwork for the sidewalk along East Blithedale Avenue (northside) between Elm Avenue (east) and Mesa Avenue.

Phase 3: Argonaut Constructors will remove formwork from the newly cast concrete sidewalk along Sunnyside Avenue between Miller Avenue and East Blithedale. Then the concrete crew will replace the sidewalk on Sunnyside Avenue north of East Blithedale Avenue.

Marin Municipal Water District Pipeline Replacement: MMWD is aiming to finish the main waterline installation and begin primary tie-ins between Elm Avenue (west) and Dell Lane. Project managers expect new water line testing and certification in early August in advance of the installation of private service laterals.

Pacific Gas and Electric: PG&E will perform exploratory excavations (potholing) in the vicinity of Elm Street to help complete their design in relocating a gas main and associated laterals.
