Overview
The City Council is the legislative body elected to represents its citizens. They receive input, develop and adopt the policy, and resolve public issues. They formulate City policy through motions, resolutions, and ordinances which reflect the needs of the public; and maintain a working knowledge of intergovernmental issues and how they will affect Mill Valley.
The mission of the Mill Valley City Council is to serve faithfully the residents and businesses of Mill Valley and nurture the City's overall quality of life. The Council does this by setting policy for the City and direction for Mill Valley's City Manager and its Boards and Commissions, at all times guided by values core to Mill Valley's heritage.

Council Policies
In the interest of consistency, the Mill Valley City Council has adopted certain policies on matters which arise frequently before the City Council. These policies are for guidance to the City staff and direction to the public only, unless otherwise indicated, do not repeat federal, state or county laws, and exclude matters which are already included or better expressed in an Ordinance or resolution. Priority Projects
Every year, the City Council conducts a strategic planning session in which it establishes its Priority Projects to support the Mission Statements, address Council Core Values, and implement Key Issues for the upcoming Fiscal Year. These projects are subsequently included the budget discussions for the two-year General Fund Budget and are reflected in the funding decisions for the current fiscal year.

Statements of Economic Interests (California Form 700)
City Council Members are elected officers identified in Government Code Section 87200 and file statements of economic interests with the City Clerk's office. Copies of the statements of economic interests filed by the above-elected officers may be obtained online, and in-person (by appointment).
